Your user account has become corrupted. This can be caused by malware infection or hardware issues. There is no way to tell from here which it is in your case at this point.1. Create a new user account and log into it. If your corrupted account was the only one on the system, log into the built-in Administrator account to do this.n XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account. The default password is a blank. In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen, do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in "Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up Windows.2. Once you are logged into the new user account, scan for malware to make sure the computer is clean.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware3. If the computer is clean, test at least the hard drive and RAM to make sure they are sound.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot4. If the computer is healthy, copy your data from the old user account (not the settings) to the new account. After you are sure you have all your stuff you can then delete the old corrupted account from Control Panel>User Accounts. If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
